Photography and Videography with Handheld Devices
Taking interesting photographs and recording video involves more than just pointing and pressing a button on your phone and/or tablet. Learn how to develop a “photographer’s eye” for photo and video worthy opportunities of people, places and events. Make the most of apps on your device and computer to edit your shots and video. Digital Portfolio Creation
Students design and create a digital portfolio that expresses who they are both in and outside of school. Using questions to reflect, students post learning artifacts with descriptions. Using photographs, video, screenshots and voice files, students build a multimedia repository of their lives. Goal-setting and working towards communicating their learning journey to high school admissions (Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, Academy of Science, Academy of Engineering Technology) and colleges is an added bonus for this class.

Construct Your Personal Learning System (PLS) Grades 3-8
Which apps, websites and browser extensions work best for you to find information, create projects and share what you know? Each week we will review a new set of tools to help you personalize how you learn as you research topics that interest you. Get ready to make technology help you with your learning! You can take what you’ve learned from here to create your own website.

Student Created Virtual Field Trips
Have you ever taken a virtual field trip to “visit” interesting places, learn about fascinating people or possibly explore a science topic? This course will put you in the role of field trip designer as you research people, places and events that interest you. Once you gather information you will storyboard your trip to then create a virtual field trip website that contains the text, images and video that will take your viewers on a multimedia learning journey!

Research, Note-taking and Presentation Skills
Our self-directed and active learners use databases and valid websites to support their studies while learning a variety of note-taking methods. They also begin the process of constructing their Personal Learning System which includes curating homework and subject area tutorial resources. Students also learn to be designers who use rich images, video and minimal text in their presentations.
